De Beers started the idea of spending two-month salary on an engagement ring, justified by it being a one-off purchase.  However Stephen Dibb thinks it depends solely on the expectations of your future wife.  If that ring really matters and it is something she has always dreamt of, then listen.  

Listen to the metal colour, the shape, the style, the size, the quality of the gem, the design and workmanship that she is talking about.  Listen out for the jewellers that her friends have had a great experience with.  On the other hand, if she really wants to travel, save for a house … again listen to her priorities as listening is a good start to every relationship.  

Mostly we see devoted partners wanting to spoil the love of their lives, their future wife, and who are we to stand in their way!
